Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 24, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Habitants (“Habitants”, “we”, “us”) handles your information when you use the Habitants iOS app and the website at habitants.app (together, the “Service”). The Service is operated by Rodrigo Lopez Lacuague (an individual), based in Uruguay.

Questions? Email [email protected].

The short version

  • We collect the minimum needed to run a habit tracker: your account basics and the habits you create.
  • We never sell your data, and we don’t use it for advertising or ad tracking. We use only privacy‑friendly, cookieless analytics (Cloudflare) — no advertising, no cross‑site tracking, and no ad profiles.
  • Your reminders are stored only on your device, not on our servers.
  • AI features send the minimum necessary data (e.g., a habit’s name, or aggregated trends) to our AI provider to generate suggestions and insights.
  • Your data is stored and processed on servers in the United States; see International transfers for how we handle that.
  • You can access, export, or delete your data at any time (see Your rights).

Information we collect

Account information. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and an email address, plus a unique account identifier. If you use Sign in with Apple with a private relay address, we only see that relay address.

Habits and activity you create. The habits you track and their details, names, categories, emoji, targets, optional cue / if‑then plan / identity notes, and your completions (including timestamps), progress, XP, levels, and badges.

Groups. If you create or join a group or partner, we store the group’s name, its invite code, and membership. Habits and progress you choose to share in a group are visible to the other members of that group.

Notifications. If you enable push notifications (e.g., group nudges), we store your device’s push token so we can deliver them. Per‑habit reminders are stored only on your device and are never sent to our servers.

Subscriptions. Habitants Pro is purchased through the Apple App Store. Apple processes your payment; we receive only your subscription status (active or not), never your card or payment details.

Technical information. Like most online services, our backend automatically logs basic technical data (such as IP address, app version, device/OS type, and timestamps) for security, reliability, and debugging.

How we use your information

  • Provide and sync the Service across your devices.
  • Deliver reminders and (if enabled) smart nudges and group nudges.
  • Power AI features, habit suggestions, weekly/monthly recaps, reminder copy and timing, and group digests.
  • Run groups, gamification (XP, levels, badges), and your subscription.
  • Keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
  • Respond to your support requests.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling for ads, or sale to third parties.

AI features

Some optional, Pro features use a third‑party AI provider (Anthropic, “Claude”) running on our servers to generate text such as habit ideas and weekly summaries. We send only the minimum needed for the feature, which may include short text you write, for example the goal you describe to Ant, a habit name, a cue, or an identity note, and/or aggregated trends (counts and trends with no personal identifiers). Please avoid putting sensitive personal details in these free‑text fields. This data is processed to produce your result and is not used by us to advertise to you. Our AI provider processes the text we send only to generate your result and does not use it to train its models. The on‑device habit‑target suggestion uses a local template and sends nothing.

How we share information

We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only:

  • With other members of groups you join, limited to what’s shared in that group.
  • With service providers (“sub‑processors”) that operate the Service on our behalf, under contracts that limit their use of your data (see the table below).
  • For legal reasons, to comply with law, enforce our Terms, or protect rights and safety.
  • In a business transfer, if Habitants is involved in a merger or acquisition, with notice.

Sub‑processors

Provider Purpose
Supabase Backend hosting, database, authentication
Apple Sign in with Apple, push delivery (APNs), App Store payments
Google Google Sign‑In
Anthropic AI generation for the optional AI features
Cloudflare Website hosting and privacy‑friendly, cookieless web analytics

Data retention

We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Backups are purged on a rolling schedule.

Your rights and choices

You can:

  • Access and export your data, or ask us for a copy.
  • Correct inaccurate information (most is editable directly in the app).
  • Delete your account and all associated data directly in the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. You can also email [email protected] and we’ll process it for you.
  • Control notifications, turn reminders, smart nudges, and quiet hours on or off in the app, or disable notifications entirely in iOS Settings.
  • Withdraw your consent to the international transfer of your data at any time by emailing [email protected]; note that, because the Service is hosted in the United States, withdrawing it may mean we can no longer provide the Service to you.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights — for example, under Uruguay’s Ley N° 18.331 (access, rectification, erasure, objection, portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with the URCDP), Brazil’s LGPD, or other applicable laws in your country. To exercise any right, email [email protected].

Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), database access controls (row‑level security so members only see what they’re entitled to), and provider‑level safeguards. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe. If a data breach affects your personal data, we will notify the relevant authority and affected users without undue delay, consistent with applicable law.

Children

Habitants is not directed to, and we don’t knowingly collect data from, children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we’ll delete it.

International transfers

Habitants is operated from Uruguay, and your data is stored and processed on servers in the United States through our providers (see Sub‑processors). Because the United States is not on Uruguay’s list of countries recognized as providing an adequate level of data protection, we rely on:

  • Data‑processing agreements / standard contractual clauses with each provider that receives your data, and
  • Your consent to this transfer, which we ask for when you create your account.

You can withdraw that consent at any time (see Your rights and choices). Where other laws apply to you (such as Brazil’s LGPD), we use the transfer mechanism those laws require.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice and, where appropriate, ask for your renewed consent.
